Taste of Judaism is an opportunity to learn about the basics of Judaism. We will briefly discuss the different kinds of Judaism, how Jews pray, life cycle events in the Jewish tradition and Jewish holidays. The last day of class, we will look at the holiday of Chanukah in detail. Whether you are just beginning to learn or want a refresher, we hope you will join us.

Oct 4 — Streams of Judaism in Perspective
Oct 11 — Jewish Textual Traditions
Oct 18 — Worship and Prayer
Oct 25 — Holidays
Nov 8 — Life Cycles
Nov 15 — Chanukah

All classes are 7:00-8:30 pm on Thursdays in the Loeb Room. You need not be interested in conversion to attend the sessions.

9:00 a.m. Traditional Torah Study (led by Rabbi Kaufman)

Chai Mitzvah

Our tradition tells us that an integrated Jewish life involves head, heart and hand… study, spirituality and social action.  Explore all of these on your terms, with your personal interests through a new adult education initiative called Chai Mitzvah.  This is a collaborative program presented by Tifereth Israel Synagogue and Temple B’nai Jeshurun.  Location TBD.  Beginning in October, every 4th Tuesday, you will participate in a monthly learning group with a specially designed curriculum that focuses on real life, relevant issues.  You will also choose an individual study topic that is personally interesting to you, adopt a new ritual or deepen an existing practice, and engage in a social action activity in your community.  Then, at the end of the 12 month program, you can celebrate your journey!
